An Unappealing Tooth Visible in Your Smile Might Need a Porcelain Crown

A white and winning smile is an important part of making a good first impression. If you have one or more unappealing teeth that are visible in your smile, it can leave you feeling self-conscious and socially awkward. In some cases, your dentist, Dr. John Cloud, might recommend fitting the teeth in your smile with custom dental veneers. If a tooth has been compromised by a cavity, an old filling, or enamel erosion, he might recommend fitting it with a porcelain dental crown.

Your dentist will start by examining the tooth and taking some X-rays. It’s important to make sure that the chip has not damaged the dentin, pulp or root of the tooth.

Your dentist will then numb the area with Novocain. A drill will be used to remove the entirety of the tooth enamel. This leaves behind the dentin core of the tooth, which will serve as an abutment to eventually anchor your crown.

We will then make an impression of the area before securing a temporary crown in place over the abutment. The impression will then be sent to a dental lab where your new crown will be produced.

A member of our staff will call you to schedule the second appointment when your new crown is ready. During this brief appointment, the temporary crown will be removed and your new crown will be cemented into place.

If you have an unappealing smile, you should call Cloud Family Dental at 501-868-3800 to understand more about dental crowns in Little Rock, Arkansas.
